Hope and Fear by Ethan Van Sciver
Two classic superheroes armed with the most powerful weapons of the DC Universe, recent inventions by the writers. Superman the Steel Man of Hope and Batman the Dark Knight of Fear. Two classic heroes who, for decades in comics have fought with only their own powers, are now being supplemented by power rings, which the lantern colors blue and yellow came long after green. I like how the colors of the Emotional Spectrum takes precedence over the individuals’ costume colors. I also like how the heroes are garbed in two colors, black and their respective aligned color because, due to the colors’ association with the Emotional Spectrum, it makes a simple big statement of the heroes’ associated emotion with their core. And also the precedence of their possibly canon membership in their respective corps over their individual hero identities. Less colors is also more. Black goes with almost anything.
Superman with the Blue Power Ring, the most powerful, would make him overpowered. Batman with the Yellow Power Ring adds to his already formidable arsenal, or replaces it, yet it makes me question. The Sinestro Corps is an enemy of the Green Lantern Corps, which pretty much makes them the bad guys, so what does this make for Batman? Of course Batman is a good guy, so perhaps Sinestro/Yellow Lantern Corps becomes a more diverse organization.
The Lantern Corps ought to recruit more members. :P Okay comic nerd blog post over. Piss off.
